Talcott Franklin P.C. recently filed a complaint on behalf of multiple municipalities in West Virginia combating the ongoing opioid abuse epidemic. The complaint alleges that the Joint Commission, which is an accreditation body for healthcare organizations and promulgates pain management standards, improperly provided guidance that caused rampant over-prescription of addictive pain medications. The toll exacted by the opioid epidemic is acute in West Virginia, but the crisis is nationwide in scope.
TFPC spent the previous decade pioneering new and successful recovery methods for those harmed by a previous nationwide crisis — the housing market collapse and subsequent financial crisis. We are taking the same innovative approach to obtaining recoveries for municipalities racked by the current opioid and heroin epidemics.
To that end, the lawsuit against the Joint Commission is the first of its kind.
